Labyrinth              Siem Reap, Cambodia // 2015

The project takes place in one Karaoke bar located outside of Siem Reap. As men enter the bar (KTV) they can choose a “companion” for the night. The woman will then accompany the customer for the night, doing whatever the man desires; Which is sometimes just a date, but sometimes more. What I discovered after spending ten nights there was quite different from my initial idea. Most of the clients were not looking for sex though it was very accessible.

"Labyrinth" turned out to be a metaphor for the way I see relationships between men and women; relationships that are ephemeral and about particular moments that do not necessarily conform to the way society wants them to exist.

Labyrinth is about the connections and disconnections that we share with each other. It is about feeling alive. About being obsessed, excited, terrified, tired, lost, and about feeling lonely. It’s about desire, the need for affection, about moments of intimacy and of complete distance.
